This month, we have a Switcher who has been with us for more than 2 years. Thuan Chew, a Switcher based at Switch@Queensbay Mall, Penang, is our Switch Superstar of the month. It was said that despite his limited working schedule, customers still enjoy coming back to Switch@Queensbay Mall to look for him.

(Thuan Chew – TC)
Q: First of all, congratulations for being nominated as September 2009’s Switch Superstar! So tell us a bit about yourself, where are you from, your age, what do you do beside working at Switch, you know, the personal stuff.
TC: First and foremost, I would like to thank CG Computers for this honour. All my friends call me either Thuan Chew or TC. I’m 28 years old. I was born in Penang, did my primary, secondary and tertiary educations in Penang, and hopefully get to work in Penang as well. My ambition is to be an academician. Currently I’m doing my PhD in Food Technology in Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). I’m specialised in Food Analysis and Quality Control. Due to my tight schedule, I can only work at Switch@Queensbay Mall on weekends and public holidays.
Q: When did you join Switch, and what made you join?
TC: I got my first iPod in Q3 of 2005 and Macintosh in mid of 2006. I was in the midst of writing up my Master degree thesis when i was introduced to MacBook. At that time, I was looking for a reliable notebook to write my thesis. Back then, I was the only one using a Mac in my faculty and I have no one to turn to whenever I encountered problems with my MacBook. After a year of misery with my MacBook, in mid of 2007 I came across a vacancy advertisement by Switch looking for part timers. I submitted my resumé and was asked to go for an interview the next day. The following week, I was working part time at Switch@Queensbay Mall. The main reason why I joined into Switch family was to learn more on iPod and Mac. I learnt a lot (both on iPod/Mac software and hardware) ever since I started working with Switch, all thanks to my senior colleagues, especially Henrick and Wah. Both of them taught me a lot.
Q: Please describe your typical day at work.
TC: The normal routines which I believe every Switcher is doing… making sure all demo units work well, making sure the outlet is clean and tidy, and attending to customers. There are basically 3 types of customers: those who have no idea on iPod/Mac, those in the midst of considering between a Mac and a PC or between an iPod and other brands of mp3/mp4 players, and those having problems with their iPod/Mac.
Q: What is your favourite part of working at Switch?
TC: Successfully switching a PC user into a happy Mac user.
Q: Can you share with us the most important thing that you’ve learned from working at Switch?
TC: Initiative. If we want to improve ourselves, we need to make the first step of asking (the correct person, of course), rather than keeping quiet and waiting for someone to ask us.
Q: What advice would you give to other Switchers (your colleagues) at work?
TC: Share our knowledge among Switchers, especially with the new Switchers. Let’s us make Switch one of the top APR in Malaysia!
